The Saturday Bears recorded a 13 run victory in an enthralling encounter with Beehive in a game where the usually most attacking batsmen had to really control their natural urges – most of the team! The usually free-flowing Ross Newman (64) showed his team mates the other side of his diverse game by playing the kind of mature innings that wins games, it was an innings of maturity, grit and superb determination. He was ably supported by the skipper (34) and some late order Andy Strange runs allowing the side to post a competitive 193.
The Beehive innings started well and were looking dangerous at 85/3 from 20 overs before Paul Wood (2/24) hauled the team back in to the game with a masterclass of swing bowling. However, Beehive continued to score at a good rate through old adversary Neil Harber (49) until Ross Newman (3/25) had him caught at deep mid-wicket/cow corner! The youthful Matt Amner (2/30) also impressed with his variety of out swingers and slower balls assisting in bowling Beehive out for a spirited 180.
