The Saturday XI are back at Fortress Glasshouse this weekend to host Swindon 2nd XI, a team we’ve had very mixed fortunes against. The Bears won the home game last year thanks to a glorious 58 from Rob Wilson and a ‘smashing’ 42 from Michael Sherring, which was backed up by a Josh Parkyn 4 wicket haul.
The author can’t comment on the away fixture due to him being away in the Balearics but apparently it rained, a lot, resulting in our only loss of our Championship winning season.
The skipper welcomes the following debutants/club legends to the 2018 season: all-rounder Simon Cox, swing bowler; Mathew Johnson, fast bowler; Jon Heywood and wicketkeeper/batsmen; Charlie Samler.
However, The Bears are without a plethora of players; (1) Mark Gunning (At a wedding in Majorca), (2) Jay Morris, (3) Sam Vesey, (4) George Ellis, (5) Jack Mainwaring (All on a Stag Do, thanks to Ross for organising this in the season, Bencey would not have done that…….!), (6) Michael Smyth (having a break from all forms of communication, even online chat rooms), (7) Simon Porter (finally finishing his Level 9.75), (8) Paul Wood (side strain), (9) Lloyd Katz (working on his arm ball), (10) Joe De Souza (returned home for the summer), (11) Tom Harris(returned home for the summer), (12) Harry Cadbury (still on Mull), (13) Rob Wilson (Daddy day-care duties) and (14) Gareth Millar (please get in touch pal, we miss you!)
All support would be most welcome – we have Zoe on tea duty so it’s bound to be an outstanding spread.
