Match Preview – Winsley – Saturday 2 June

The Saturday XI travel to the stunning home of Winsley CC for this weekend’s game where it is hoped there is rather less drama than the corresponding fixture last season resulting in the narrowest of victories. It was another game where the team ‘went deep’, mainly thanks to the mercurial brilliance of Michael Sherring who struck the finest 72 anybody could wish for, or in fact have the pleasure of watching. A particular highlight was when he charged their quick Australian bowler who pitched it short for Sherring to nonchalantly hook him for a majestic 6.  Sherring’s virtuosity was backed up by two outstanding pieces of fielding from Paul Wood and a final over from the ice man, Josh Parkyn who bowled the over of the season (with no turn!) to win the game.

The skipper welcomes back last year’s match winner, Michael Sherring and our usual match winner, Shreyas Malhotra, both of whom will be very good additions to the squad.

However, he is still without; (1) Harry Cadbury (managing a 10,000 acre estate on the Scottish Island of Mull), (2) Tony ‘Big T’ Deoliveira (hunting more wild boars in the wilderness of MSN), (3) George ‘My Boy’ Ellis (thinking of another new injury to get him out of playing cricket!), (4) Jack Mainwaring (cracked ribs (5) Simon’ Rimmer’ Porter (finishing off his ECB Level 9.25 coaching badge), (6) Michael Smyth (recharging his political batteries ready for some more high end battles with the readers of the Bath Chronicle), (7) Rob Wilson (birthday parties), (8) Paul Wood (back strain), (9) Charlie Samler (counselling the Sat XI skipper!) and (10) Lloyd Katz (working on his arm ball).
